First at the Last Supper
, 2024-6 echoes the formal qualities of Leonardo da Vinci's
Last Supper
(c. 1495–1498. Tempera on gesso, pitch, and mastic, on wall plaster. Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan, Italy.)

The title of the work indicates its humorous intention. Firrell takes up the position occupied by Christ in the Leonardo da Vinci painting. He has arrived too early – before the other guests – and is either waving to a new arrival or is, perhaps, trying to attract the attention of a waiter.
